To have a custom
inlay commissioned contact
Craig Lavin at:
clavin@handcraftinlay.com
The process begins
with a design consultation, then drawings, then cutting the
inlay from the agreed upon materials, inlaying, and engraving
(if called for).
Prices vary with
each commission, so contact me for more details.
I currently have
a turn around time of three to four weeks for most commissions.
Large art pieces will require more time, as may some special
and rare materials requests. I refuse to rush any work, as
that is the best way to ruin it. Quality is far more important
to me than volume. Thanks for your understanding!
I look forward
to starting the design process with you.
Attention people
with "store- purchased" instruments!
While the instrument
you purchased is most likely very fine indeed, adding any
inlay to the fretboard requires the frets being REMOVED and
REINSTALLED by a trained luthier. As well, any guitar that
is totally/completely built, will need to be brought back
to the pre-finished state to add inlay under a finish. Peghead
inlays, and other body areas all will need to be stripped,
and refinished to accomplish the inlay.
Exceptions are-
truss rod covers, pick guards, bridges, and ebony tuning pegs.
All of these things are "no prep work" inlays, and
can be completed without any additional luthier work.
I work with a number
of FINE luthiers who can achieve any level of preparative
or restorative work to get your instrument to the inlay process.
Please contact me for details.
